ProForce Destro Herbicide.

ProForce Destro Herbicide is a post emergent grass herbicide that contains 375g/L Diclofop Methyl, so it is in Herbicide Group 1. It is controls Crowsfoot in a range of turf species including Couch, Kikuyu, Qld Blue Couch, and Buffalo.

ProForce Destro is a grass specific herbicide and has no effect on broadleaf weeds or Sedges. See our Weed Chart for more information.

Mode of Action of Destro Herbicide.

Once inside the plant Diclofop-methyl quickly transforms from the ester to the biologically active from. This then moves throughout the plant.

Diclofop-methyl inhibits fatty acid production via prevention of acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase) synthase. As a result, Destro destroys the plant’s cell membrane, and leaves of susceptible plants have a water soaked appearance.

Diclofop-methyl also kills the growing tips, so leaves of treated grasses can be easily pulled from their sheaths. Diclofop-methyl also prevents the translocation of assimilates (plant food reserves) to the root system, reduces plant chlorophyll content, and inhibits photosynthesis and meristem activity in weedy grasses.

Benefits of ProForce Destro Herbicide.

  • Provides a different mode of action to other options in the fight against Crowsfoot Grass.
  • Has excellent turf safety on warm season grasses including Couch, Kikuyu, Queensland Blue Couch & Buffalo.
  • Group 1 Herbicide chemistry.
  • You can use Destro in golf and bowling green situations.
  • Is safe to use on Queensland Blue Couch and Kikuyu. There are few other post-emergent herbicides available to control Crowsfoot Grass on these turf types.
  • Safe for use nearby ornamental garden beds and landscape plants.
  • Does not have a re-entry period for turf situations.
  • Flexible to use near and around the public.
  • Proven performance, and Destro is very effective to control Crowsfoot when it is in the early growth stages (seedling to tillering).
  • Rainfall and irrigation won’t diminish effectiveness as much as other products
  • Cost effective option for large area treatment and finally
  • Is compatible with Vertmax Duo turf pigment and Vertmax pigment.

Get the Best Results with ProForce Destro Herbicide.

  • Rainfall or irrigation within 1 hour of application will reduce grass control.
  • Use of a methylated seed oil adjuvant with ProForce Destro 375 Herbicide improves efficacy. Gilba Solutions recommends the use of Voltage MSO at 250mL/100L of water.
  • Use on Crowsfoot Grass when the largest leaf area is evident.
  • Grass clippings left on the surface significantly redue the effectiveness of Diclofop-methyl. This is because they prevent thorough spray coverage of the target weed. Particularly around the crown of the plant.
  • Do not mow treated areas for at least 36 hours to allow time for penetration into the weed.
  • Diclofop-methyl is taken up primarily through the foliage so good coverage is important. You can see visual injury on Crowsfoot Grass approximately 2 to 3 weeks after application (dependent upon environmental conditions).
  • Young Crowsfoot plants are easier to control than large mature plants so best results come from early season applications.
  • Temperature plays a big role in the results you get. Use ProForce Destro when mean daily temperatures are below 25C.
  • Do not use on turfgrass under stress.
  • Ensure good coverage over the Crowsfoot plant. Use higher water volumes (1,000L per hectare), and target the product at the base (crown) of the Crowsfoot Grass.
  • Don’t use on cool season turfgrasses such as Ryegrass, as severe injury will result.
  • Avoid tank mixing ProForce Destro 375 Herbicide with any other pesticide or liquid fertiliser as reduced Crowsfoot Grass control may occur.
  • Do not overseed treated area for at least 2 months from time of application.

  • When should I apply my lawn pre emergent?

The best time to apply these products is in the early spring as this is before broadleaf weeds begin to grow. For grass weeds like summer grass apply later say in late spring or early summer. This weeds germinate later, so by applying your pre emergent later you will get longer control.
  • What is a turf herbicide?

Turf herbicides, also known as weedkillers are pesticides used to control and manage undesirable plants. It is important that when you use a turf herbicide that you precisely follow the label directions. If you don't do this then the herbicide may fail to control the target weed, damage the turf grass or even prevent you from being able to reseed or re-turf damaged areas. Turf herbicides can be:
    • Selective or non selective. Selective turf herbicides are able to specifically target the weed without damaging the desirable turf grass. Non selective turf herbicides kill everything.
    • Pre emergent or post emergent. Pre emergent turf herbicides prevent weeds from growing and becoming and are used before weeds grow. Post emergent kill weeds after they have emerged.
    • Work against broadleaf weeds or grass weeds.
